FAQ
Where do match results come from?
Match results are collected from rankedin.com and tournament.tools. Ratings are updated after each event.
How does rating change after matches?
Your rating can go up or down after each recorded match. Confidence is included in the number you see.
- If you beat a higher rated player, your rating usually goes up more.
- If you lose to a lower rated player, your rating usually goes down more.
- If the result is expected, your rating usually changes only a little.
- If the system becomes more or less confident about your level, that can also move your rating.
Can my rating change if I did not play?
Yes, usually only by a small amount. If you do not play for a while, the system becomes a bit less certain about your current level. Because confidence is part of rating, your rating can drift down until new results confirm where you belong.
I won most of my matches but my rating dropped?
Rating changes depend on who you played, not just how many matches you won. Beating much lower-rated players gains very little, while a single loss to a much lower-rated opponent can cost a lot. So winning 5 out of 6 matches can still result in a net rating drop if the one loss was against a weaker player.
What is "confidence"?
Confidence is how sure the system is about a player's level. It is already included in the rating number shown on the site, and it is also shown as High, Medium, or Low.
- Low: not much information yet (for example, few matches). Ratings can move faster.
- High: lots of information. Ratings usually move more slowly.
What does "unranked" mean?
Players with fewer than 10 completed matches are shown as Unranked. They still have a rating, but they do not receive a rank yet. After 10 matches, you move into the ranking and receive a rank number.
How are groups sorted?
The Group Builder sorts players by the same rating shown everywhere else on the site. That rating already includes confidence, so there is no separate group-only sorting number.
Technical Details (Glicko-2)
Extra details (not needed for normal use):
- The system is based on the Glicko-2 rating system. Wikipedia: Glicko rating system
- Glicko-2 tracks rating, confidence, and volatility. Rating is what players see.
- Confidence is included in rating, so the same number is used for standings, player pages, and groups.
-
The confidence label comes from rating uncertainty:
Highif RD <= 80,Mediumif RD <= 150, otherwiseLow. -
New players start at rating
1500, RD350, and volatility0.06. Their first visible rating is therefore about1150. -
Match results are converted into a single outcome per match: win =
1.0, draw =0.5, loss =0.0. - If a player does not play for a while, uncertainty tends to go up, which lowers the rating until more matches confirm their current level.
